About Us

A little bit about who we are and what we stand for

UK Teaching Staff are the only online CV database and careers resources site dedicated to saving money within the teaching profession. We were founded in 2008 by teachers and continue to be run by teachers who are committed to providing a cost effective, easy to use and innovative service to all schools looking to take recruitment into their own hands. Whilst we now have outside help from non-teaching professionals, our vision remains the same: to provide schools with the opportunity to control their own recruitment and to empower teachers to take control of their own careers, ultimately saving money which can be used for resourcing schools.

History

Back in 2008, an English Teacher, a Boarding House Parent (formerly a Recruitment Consultant) and an Online Marketer teamed together to discuss the possibility of offering an ethical and cost effective recruitment service to schools by way of a CV database. "We're educating Head Teachers on how to effectively recruit for themselves rather than spending their much needed cash on expensive recruitment alternatives."The plan was simple; they would build a database of teachers looking for work, build a user friendly website, and begin educating Head Teachers on how to effectively recruit for themselves rather than spending their much needed cash on expensive recruitment alternatives. The users would operate on a membership basis, pay a low cost fee for membership and access to the website which in turn would allow the user to search for teachers by viewing their profiles and their CVs. Costs for the memberships were to be kept at a minimum whilst a percentage of all post-tax end-of-year profits would be made available in the form of a grant whereby schools could apply and receive a donation to resource their schools. After 2 years building the foundations of the community whilst searching for an experienced and talented web developer, UK Teaching Staff launched in 2010 with the view to providing teachers with free resources and job alerts and providing schools with a cost effective, easy to use and innovative service for recruiting teachers.

Aims, Objectives and Ethos

UK Teaching Staff are dedicated to promoting the importance of education in the UK and worldwide. We recognise that a large proportion of educational funds are spent on high end advertising, marketing and recruitment costs – especially for schools with a high staff turnover or who regularly use supply teachers. To this end, we aim to save schools money in their recruitment as we feel that by saving money in this area, money could be diverted to resourcing schools in other areas.

In keeping with our aim of saving money in the recruitment of staff in schools, our objectives can be classified as:

  • Providing schools with the opportunity to take charge of their recruitment
  • Empowering teachers to take control of their careers
  • Celebrating the sharing of ideas, resources and expertise through our community

UK Teaching Staff provide all of the benefits of a recruitment service whilst allowing schools to be in control of the staff they want to employ through access to the masses of staff available on our database. By providing an excellent service for a minimal cost we aim to eliminate the stresses, strains and expense of modern day recruitment whilst advising and educating schools on how to take control of their own recruitment in order to save money and use their budget on other educational resources.

Why we're different?

Firstly, we're not a recruitment agency which is how we differ from other, similar companies. Two of our three founder members are trained and qualified teachers and the third is currently training as a teacher (which means we like to think we know what we're talking about). Whilst we have a database of teachers looking for work, we merely offer schools the opportunity to advertise jobs on our site, create a profile for their schools and search CVs in order to recruit their own staff - we don't interview every teacher or CRB check them. We provide teachers with a service of how to find the right job for themselves, help with building their CVs and get confirmation that all members are indeed, qualified teachers.

  • Cost effective, easy to use and innovative service
  • All memberships are verified to ensure that they are only available to teaching professionals
  • Created to enable Head Teachers to take recruitment into their own hands
  • No hard sell techniques – schools can browse teachers at their leisure
  • Full CV’s posted on website*
  • Profile and interview notes presented on listing in addition to CV**
  • Teaching qualifications are verified***
  • Teachers are telephone interviewed only****
  • Teachers are not CRB Checked
  • All teachers' services are free
  • Standard monthly or annual fee for each school to be a member
  • No extra fee for recruiting through our website

Whilst we recognise the importance of recruitment agencies and other advertising avenues, we also recognise that education in the UK has suffered dramatically which, in part, could be attributed to a shortage of funds. We are committed to saving money and increasing efficiency in educational recruitment and our vision is to put the power back into the hands of schools in order to save money to use on improving schools, equipment and educational resources in the UK and worldwide.

*Full CVs are provided on our website for teachers who have signed up for their CVs to be placed on the public profile.

**Profile and interview notes are presented on teachers' listing in addition to CV, if the individual has been interviewed and has agreed to this information being added.

***All teachers' qualifications are verified by way of scanned copies of QTS (or equivalent) being sent and approved prior to the profile being made public. By doing this, we aim to keep our memberships exclusive to teachers to ensure that our community and service is only used by the people it is intended for.

****Some teachers will be telephone interviewed at random in order to maintain our stance of only being available to teachers. All interview notes will be added to the teachers' profile, providing the individual grants their consent for us to do this.
